This Week @ Coys: Lagonda LG 45 Rapide

Featured this week at Coys of Kensington - London's renowned automotive auction house - is yet another sterling example of a 1930s grand tourer.

Pictured is the 1936 Lagonda LG 45 Rapide Type Tourer set in red on red.

What sheen to this fine car!

The man who design this machine was none other than W.O. Bentley himself - Mr. Bentley left Bentley Motors not long after Rolls-Royce purchased the marque.

LG motors (which took over the failed Lagonda), claimed at the time that the Rapide was more than true to its namesake by being the world's fastest car. The strong 4 1/2 Liter, straight-six engine proved itself time and again at the Grand Prix in France.

Only 25 of these cars were made by careful hand.

This particular model has gone through extensive restoration and is not necessarily true to the original design as modifications were made to the chassis.

That said, I cannot think why any true collector would hesitate at taking this magnificent car home.
