The Barbarous Brabus

1986 Brabus 560SEL

Brabus is the Ruhr based Teutonic super tuner that has been bastardizing civilized Mercedes-Benzes since 1977.

For those unfamiliar, what high perfomance tuner AMG is to Mercedes-Benz, generally, Brabus has been to AMG in terms of relative performance upgrades.

In short, Brabus turns stock Mercedes-Benzes into hyper performance street racers with hideous aerodynamic kit that are good for smoking tyres well beyond 100 mph.

These cars are powerful enough to satisfy all but the F1 speed demons of the world.

According to Brabus' own site, they're keenly situated near that A2 Autobahn; perhaps the best real world testing grounds.

It seems, however, that Brabus had gone decidedly more mainstream from being just another obscure tuner when in 1999 they set up shop in Newport Beach, California.

Outside of Miami Beach, I could not think of a better sub-headquarters for a sports car tuner.
Now, much like the rest of the auto industry, the bulk of Brabus sales go direct to the America. Their Golden State presence must have something to do with that new found success.

The company is currently looking to expand "distributorship" into the D.C. metro area.
